EASTWAVE RADIO TEAMS UP WITH DRUG-FREE MARSHALS TO TACKLE DRUG EDUCATION

Drug-Free Marshals and East Wave FM teamed up and visited some of the primary school in Lenasia this week.
Their purpose was to provide a
message about the dangers of drugs and to hand out information fliers on various
drugs like dagga, cocaine, mandrax, alcohol, heroin and ecstasy.
The day started with a live interview on East Wave FM with Ricky
Delgado from Drug-Free Marshals and Simmi from East Wave. Schools
visited were Libra Primary, Alpha Primary, Impala Primary, Park Primary and
Progress Primary.

According to Ricky Delgado, Drug-Free Marshals (DFM) coordinator, the importance of education and information about the dangers of drugs can't be down-played. When one knows and understands just what kind of damage drugs can do, then one has to alert the rest of society.
This week's events were just the beginning. With over 5000 fliers out to the schools that were visited, DFM has set a target of doing over four times that in the coming months. High schools will be addressed next term after the school holidays. At some of the schools visited, lectures were done, questions from students about drugs were answered, while at others class visits were done and fliers delivered.

Originally started over a decade ago by the Church of Scientology International as a community service, Drug-Free Marshals has spread internationally and has been adopted and supported by numerous community groups, police departments, radio stations and religious groups. The motto by which this campaign operates is these words from philosopher L. Ron Hubbard: "Save the child and you save the nation."

"We are working
to keep children drug-free. Without what Drug-Free Marshals is doing right here
and now, children will fall into the drug trap. Now, with drug education, they
have a chance to be clean and free of drugs." said Ricky.
In recent weeks news of major drug busts has hit the news. On the Lesotho border
just yesterday, a huge Dagga bust was done with over 2 million rand worth of the
drug was confiscated. In Columbia recently, armed soldiers conducted a drug bust
which stopped over 3 tons of cocaine making it onto the streets.

And back home, over 5 tons of Mandrax and the chemicals used to manufacture Mandrax were destroyed with hydrochloric acid. The police are doing their part. Our part is to provide the education and prevent drug use.
